our story

The Viet Huong Oriental Market is a family owned business that started in the 1980's in a small, local pool hall with only 3 shelves of groceries.  Over the years, the grocery section continued to thrive until it eventually outgrew the local pool hall and moved to a shared commercial location with another tenant in a small, 2-suite property.  The oriental grocery thrived for more than 25 years until the commercial property was sold, thus closing the store.  In 2012, Ms. Rhonda Tran, a Vietnamese mother with an entrepreneurial spirit, decided to once again resurrect the grocery store, but this time under a new name and a more accessible location in the middle of Savannah.  Her customers loved the immediate access to real Asian food.

Rhonda's daughter now runs the family business. Hong Tran is a Vietnamese American who respects the tradition of old ways but views it under a proud, American ideology.  Her regular customers love shopping there, rave of the "true tastes of the Orient," and can witness the entrepreneurial spirit once carried by her mother.

Many shop at Viet Huong for their love of Asian food. We encourage you to browse the aisles of the market and become inspired to cook that favorite dish or maybe host a dinner party at your home.  Take time to speak with Hong and you will capture her love for gardening, cooking, and passion for sharing her knowledge of Asian food and recipes.  Let Viet Huong be your Asian grocery resource.
